A Baby Shower

Our baby shower turned out beautiful and so much fun! I had a little army of people helping that included my mom, stepdad, stepsis, nephew, best friend and hubby. It took a village lol, but it took off some stress from me and I was able to relax and enjoy. Also, special shout out to my best friend, who was the one making sure pictures were taken and because of her I have beautiful pictures with my family, most of the guests, decorations and set up. She would also direct us on how to pose and would tell me which was my best angle. Not only was she the self-designated photographer but also head decorator. What else can you possibly want in a best friend?

The shower was co-ed and my stepsis was in charge of the games. She picked 2 very fun ones and everyone participated and laughed. I definitely recommend playing them even if your shower is not co-ed. One was to draw baby Leo on a paper plate on your forehead and the other one was to make the baby out of play-doh. You'd be surprised, but people get really into both games! Especially the Play-Doh one, it got really competitive! Seriously, my one piece of advise if you're having a baby shower is to designate the most fun person you know to be in charge of your games.

For food we did brunch with scrambled eggs, sausages, pancakes, waffles, french toast casserole, my mom's famous egg stratta, coffee bar, mimosas and munchkins and a dessert table with assorted mini desserts and cake.

The theme was baby Lion King (the line is called Sweet Circle of Life. Discontinued by Disney, sadly) because of the baby's name being Leo. In hindsight, it wasn't very clear that that was the reason since his name was nowhere to be seen :( If there's one thing I regret is not getting the giant ballon letters to spell it out. I really debated whether to get them or not, and decided not to since we had baby lion balloons.

29 weeks and an election

This week was a busy one! It was election day, my nephew's 18th birthday, our baby shower and I had Kid's Ministry. Phewwww!

Election day I was a nervous wreck. Up until the day before I had been SO SURE. I knew it would go the way it was supposed to, there was just NO WAY that he would win. Even when I spoke to a Trump supporter in my office, she told me she knew Hilary would win.
I went to school that day, but I decided to skip my night class. I was just so nervous. I had an uneasy feeling, and went straight home to watch it unfold. My husband and I watched with baited breath, not really talking about it much, but every once in a while he would say "I don't like this. I don't like this" and I would say, "I don't think it's going to go the way it's supposed to." Back and forth we went until about midnight when we headed upstairs to sleep, already with a sinking suspicion. I woke up in the middle of the night, checked my phone and confirmed. The next day was just somber. It's the only way I can describe the vibe of the office. No one was talking. Everyone was in shock.

It was also my nephew's birthday so we decided to head out for dinner at Olive Garden with my parents. We had a delicious dinner and surprised him by having the staff sing to him. I was surprised too because I didn't see anyone in my family "go to the bathroom" so I'm still not sure when/who asked for the singing, but it was a good time. Happy birthday buddy! We love you and are so proud of you.

Friday was Veteran's Day so everyone (except for Hector) had the day off. It was a day FULL of errands and tasks in preparation for the baby shower the next day. Thank God for my mom and step-dad. They came over to help with all kinds of things. My stepdad and nephew did some gardening (we had an outside brunch), my mom helped me with setting up the serving ware. The tables, chairs and tent rentals were delivered. The cleaning lady was picked up. It was a long day that also included a mani-pedi, but not much relaxing on my part. I just get so anxious when hosting parties that I literally can't stop moving until the first guest walks in the door. However, it was a great time! I will do a photo dump and day of post in a few days.

28 Weeks and a maternity tour

I was able to do Zumba class this week with no pain so yay! I also did a home workout with Hector and my nephew. They started to work out in the backyard this week and it's the cutest. Even our dog Ace joins in the fun and runs ONE lap with them lol.

Tons of baby shower planning, homework, a hair appointment and a maternity tour kept me busy this week.

The tour was pretty great as it was very informational. The nurse who showed us around was great too, I wish I could request to have her for my birth haha. There were about 100 people there, and some were second or third time parents so I tried to squish in all the way to the front. Hector told me to slow down but I just wanted to make sure I got all the information!

Hey, I'm a first time mom. I have NO clue what I'm doing or what to expect so at least having some information on things to come eases my anxiety. We visited the NICU, the delivery rooms, saw where the OR's for C-sections were at (obviously couldn't go in), were told where and how to pre-register, how to get the best bang for our buck with cafeteria food (apparently, you can prepay for all the days you will be in and then they just deliver your food to the room? IDK, thought that was weird) and they told us where to park and which way to enter. Pretty sure all that info will go out the window on the actual D-day but it doesn't hurt to know. I was really excited for my hair appointment because I wanted a change. I went darker, with less highlights but with lighter face-framing pieces. If you're in South Florida, in the Boca Raton area, I recommend Muse Hair Salon and definitely ask for Julia
